VITAE
I was born and raised in Thessaloniki. My father, Nikos Kofokotsios, was one of the first gastroenterologists in my hometown and co-founder of Geniki Kliniki Thessalonikis.
After graduating from Anatolia American College (High School), I attended the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
After obtaining my MD, I trained in the U.K. in General Medicine and Gastroenterology for 7 years reaching the grade of Consultant Gastroenterologist.
In 2000 I returned to Greece. Having organised the Endoscopy Lab at Euromedica Geniki Kliniki Thessalonikis, I have been heading the GI department since 2008. Apart from upper GI endoscopies and colonoscopies, I started an ERCP service.
In 2005 I was the first gastrenterologist in Northern Greece to implement Wireless Capsule Endoscopy service followed by Double Balloon Enteroscopy in 2008 and more recently endoscopic fundoplication (Esophyx and GERDX techniques) and HALO Barrett’s ablation.
Having succeeded in the relevant exams, I became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP).
I also became an Instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and received the European Diploma of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (FEBGH).
More recently I was accepted as member of the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
I also served as member of the board of the Hellenic Society of Gastroenterology for 3 years.
I regularly attend the national and international GI congresses being a regular lecturer as well as having published in Greek and international GI journals.
I am married and father of 3 children.
